When Grandpa Blomberg was stranded after a freeze plug rusted through and dumped all of the engine coolant out of the pickup one day about 50 years ago, he whittled his own plug out of a piece of hedge wood. When his grandson began tearing the engine down for an overhaul in 2005, the wooden plug was still holding fast.
