Wichita River Festival
There are things Wichitans have an excuse to do just once a year at the Wichita River Festival. Like pay for their personal pan pizzas with tickets. Do a Zydeco jig in front of Century II. Kansas and more
Classic rock band Kansas -- known for Top 20 hits such as "Dust in the Wind," "Carry on Wayward Son" and "Point of No Return"-- will perform at tonight's opening of the Wichita River Festival. The band is one of several well-known acts playing the festival. Read more

Festival food court
The Wichita River Festival food court will once again offer a balanced diet of corn on the cob and funnel cakes (and this year an invention called "chicken fried bacon with dip.") But it will also feature a few changes this year, including the fact that food court tickets will be sold in $1 increments rather than 50 cents. Read more

The BBQ --N-- Catfish Shack is a new restaurant at 519 E. Harry (in the spot that once housed El Mexico Cafe) that specializes in Texas-style barbecue cooked over hickory, and fried catfish. The owner is Staci Justice, whose husband once ran CD's Home Style Barbecue in Augusta. The menu also features burnt end dinners, stuffed baked potatoes and barbecue/catfish combos. It's open from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Mondays through Saturdays. Call 316-267-7427 for more information.
