Schools will need to be part of cuts

Simple math says that the state will need to cut education spending in order to cover its projected $1 billion shortfall this fiscal year and the next. After all, K-12 funding is half of the state's budget, and there isn't enough discretionary spending in the rest of the budget to cover a deficit that large.
